William J. WoodsWhile admiring the work of other artisans at numerous craft shows some years ago, William Woods noticed the absence of finely crafted and creatively designed toys for children. This started his unusual career being a toymaker. From his earliest toys to those he now makes, there is a constant progression in design and in craftsmanship. Each year he adds to his line or changes his display to keep his work unique, fresh and fun. He takes pride in having found interesting combinations of Cherry, Maple and Walnut woods. After careful shaping and sanding, the final step involves applying a hand rubbed mixture of nontoxic oil and Beeswax. " I am pleased to be achieving my original goal of designing and handcrafting enjoyable, functional wooden toys. I'm inspired by hearing people describe my toys as creative, tactile, unique, solid and a family heirloom." |
